Estate Planning, Trust Administration & Probate in Yuba County
Codi M. Dada Law Office P.C. offers estate planning, trust administration and probate administration through virtual services across California, with an in-person office in Novato. The right next step depends on whether you are planning ahead or handling someone’s estate—and how assets are titled.
Planning ahead: organize decisions and documents
Estate planning is done during your life to prepare for financial and health-care decisions and the transfer of property. A plan may include a will, living trust, financial power of attorney and advance health care directive. These documents have distinct roles: a financial power of attorney addresses financial matters, while a health-care directive addresses health-care decisions.
Start by listing your assets and noting how each is owned, whether it is held in a trust, and whether a beneficiary is named. Include real estate, financial accounts and other property. This information helps identify where ownership, trust title or beneficiary designations may affect the transfer process. A trust plan also needs to be coordinated with asset ownership; creating a trust document alone does not answer how every asset will transfer.
Choose an appropriate person to know where important documents are kept. A consultation can take place virtually, but that does not by itself authorize remote signing. Signing requirements depend on the documents and applicable rules, so discuss them before completing documents.
After a death: identify the transfer process
If you are handling a decedent’s affairs, first gather the will, any trust documents, account and property records, and beneficiary information. For each asset, record its type, how it is owned, whether it is titled in a trust or has a named beneficiary, and its estimated value as of the date of death. These details help clarify whether trust administration, probate or another transfer procedure may apply; not every estate follows the same route.
Trust administration concerns carrying out the terms of a trust and addressing property held in it. Court probate is a separate process. Formal probate includes opening a court case, administering the estate and closing the case. When formal probate applies, the court appoints a personal representative. That person inventories assets, addresses debts and reports to the court before final distribution. A will may nominate an executor, but nomination is not the same as court appointment.
The decedent’s residence and the location of property can matter more than a mailing label. Probate is usually filed in the county where the decedent lived. If the person lived outside California but owned property in California, filing may be required where that property is located. For real estate, the county recorder where the property is located holds the property records. These factors do not mean every Yuba County resident must file a case in Yuba County.
Yuba County records and court information
The Yuba County Superior Court Probate Division posts probate notes reflecting staff evaluation of pending matters and identifies the Civil Division in Marysville as its contact. Those notes and court information can help you locate public case resources, but court clerks cannot interpret the law or give legal advice. The court’s information does not determine whether a particular estate needs probate or which transfer procedure applies.
Codi M. Dada Law Office P.C. has one in-person office at 802 Grant Ave, Novato, California, and provides virtual services across California. A remote consultation does not automatically authorize remote court appearances. Whether a court appearance can be remote depends on the applicable court process; virtual legal services do not guarantee that option.

Common questions
Does every Yuba County estate go through probate?
No. The process depends on the decedent’s residence, the location of any California property, and how each asset was owned or designated to pass. Trust title and beneficiary designations can affect transfer options. Review the records before assuming a court case is required.
What should I gather before discussing an estate?
Collect the will and trust documents, if available, along with property and account records. Make a list of each asset, how it is owned, any trust title or beneficiary designation, and its estimated date-of-death value. For real estate, note the county where the property is located.
